Hexthorpe Primary School
CBC were in the unique position of being able to carry out all of the works necessary when Hexthorpe Primary School in Doncaster wanted to entirely refurbish their ICT suite. We were in the position to offer all of the services they required, meaning less fuss having to hire several different contractors. Initial discussions established the whole ICT suite including the benching and wired network needed taking out and completely replacing the walls needed repairing and repainting, the interactive whiteboard was to be relocated to a more appropriate location within the room and the school's pottery kiln needed to be disguised or hidden - no easy task considering it is a huge piece of equipment.
CBC Computers is fully CHAS registered as required, and also fully understood the special requirements of Doncaster CC with regards to electrics isolation for a safer environment. The basic design of the benching was to remain largely the same, with one or two enhancements, and most of the electrics were left untouched.
However; the network wiring had been gradually upgraded in the past to accommodate new technologies, and as such was incredibly untidy and inefficient. The routing of the cables was quite hazardous in places, resulting in us moving the school's two servers from the IT suite into a dedicated room to help make the cabling that extra bit tidier. Our solution to hiding the Kiln was by building a new partition wall and door, creating a small room solely for the use of the kiln. This also had the benefit of providing extra storage for the laptop trolley.
Once colour schemes had been agreed on, a schedule was worked out and the project organised to take place in the summer holidays, CBC Computers are very experienced in this line of work and therefore had no issue working to a tight six-week deadline.
